Safety

It is HMC’s policy to achieve the highest safety standards on every project. Safety does not occur by chance; it is the result of careful attention to all company operations by everyone directly and indirectly involved. Employees at all levels are expected to work diligently to protect the safety of the general public, employees of the subcontractors, and HMC employees through proper execution of the company’s safety and occupational health policies.

HMC has a safety program which includes pre-hire MCAA safety training video, new employee safety orientation, OSHA training, daily pre-task safety analysis, weekly tool box talks and mandatory drug testing.  These efforts have enabled HMC to reduce and maintain their EMR to a low level, one they are continuously striving to improve.

HMC’s goal in safety is to have “ZERO” accidents or incidents with their employees and subcontractors.  To achieve this goal they have a safety award incentive program.  HMC also issue safety citations to employees not complying with safety rules and procedures.  Along with the safety citations they have implemented the Second Sited Warning for repeat safety violators.  All safety citations are reviewed by HMC’s safety committee and management.

All foremen are certified in CPR and First Aid. Heavy emphasis is placed toward ongoing training to ensure that the construction sites are safe and always in compliance with regulations and standards. All sites are constantly and thoroughly inspected at regular intervals and are under strict enforcement of HMC’s 100% Hard Hat and Eye Protection Policy.

HMC strives to achieve a zero injury safety culture within the firm from upper management to the craftsmen in the field.  They have a safety committee comprised of the safety manager, safety consultant (Safety First Resources), superintendents, plumber foreman, pipefitter foreman, sprinkler foreman and administrative personnel.  The craft foremen roll off the committee annually in order to get diversity from the workforce.  The safety committee meets bi-monthly to discuss safety issues, implement safety policies, review any accidents or near misses that may have occurred, review OSHA inspections and discuss training requirements.

As of July 2010 HMC has successfully worked 605 days with no loss time accidents.

Previous three years EMR: 2008 – .74, 2009 – .74, 2010 – .60
